SHILLONG: The public of the state of Meghalaya is getting ready to vote as the campaigning comes to an end at 4 PM on February 25. They will decide whether to retain or to replace their elected representatives as voting will take place in a single round across the state for all the constituencies of the state. The leader of the National People’s Party expressed his confidence in achieving a clear majority in the upcoming elections in the state.
Conrad K Sangma, the chief minister of the state of Meghalaya during the previous term of the assembly is appearing from the South Tura constituency of the state which falls in the West Garo Hills district of the state. Brenield ch. Marak for the Indian National Congress, Richard Mrong Marak for Trinamool Congress, John Leslee Sangma for the United Democratic Party and Bernard N. Marak for the Bharatiya Janta Party are the main competitors for this seat.
He mentioned that the border problems with neighbouring Assam cannot be solved within a short time and limited future plans. He said that his government aims to take their time to reach an everlasting solution to this problem adding that there is no perfect answer to this problem. He also called the Mukroh incident to be very sad and unfortunate and came as a hurdle in the entire process of the solution of border issues. Conrad Sangma also mentioned that the combined effort and will of the Government of Meghalaya, the Government of Assam and the Government of India is necessary to completely solve this problem.
He has also mentioned recently that he had no say in the entire incident of Bernard N. Marak. The state police were acting based on a complaint by a young girl who had faced sexual violence, which finally led to the arrest of the Bharatiya Janata Party politician from Uttar Pradesh.
