SHILLONG: Under the leadership of the AITC parliamentary party leader, Dr Mukul Sangma, Meghalaya Trinamool Congress(M-TMC) conducted a general party meeting at Asanang, West Garo Hills.
Attended by 800 plus people, this event marks the increasing faith of the people in All India Trinamool Congress to remove the proxy BJP government.
Addressing the assemblage, Dr Mukul Sangma, AITC parliamentary party leader, talked about the sorry state of affairs in Meghalaya under the MDA government. Emphasizing the growing frustration amongst youth, he said, "Why have they (MDA government) deprived our youth who have been waiting for the jobs they deserve? One must think about all categories of stakeholders as far as jobs are concerned. Everyone who has aspirations has to be ensured with the kind of hope that they need in a democratic set-up; otherwise it is dangerous. What is their intent? What is their priority?
Questioning the progress of the road from Dainadubi, Damra Mendipathar, Resubelpara, the Leader of the Opposition asked, "What has stopped the government from completing the World Bank-funded project that was approved in 2017? Similar is the condition of Rongram-Phulbari. Rs 132 crore is the tender value and the contractor is the one who constructed the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. The quantum of the funds released to the contractor does not commensurate with the progress on the ground. Of the total tender value, Rs 77 crore is already paid yet the progress on-ground is hardly 30 per cent."
