East Garo Hills observes International Day for Persons with Disabilities (IDPwD) in Samanda

WILLIAMNAGAR: Together with the rest of the world, East Garo Hills also celebrated the International Day for Persons with Disabilities (IDPwD) with this year’s theme, ‘United in action to rescue and achieve the sustainable development goals for, with, and by persons with disabilities’ at St. George Higher Secondary School, Samanda, on Monday, where the Block Development Officer of Samanda C&RD Block, Tochri R. Sangma, was the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Tochri R. Sangma highlighted the sustainable development goals (SDGs) for this year’s celebration of the day and said that God has given abilities to compensate, thereby making the differently abled persons on par with the normal persons.

On the day, the others who spoke were Baseng N. Marak of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Dr. Saljun D. Sangma of the District Medical and Health Officer, and Drimbos N. Sangma, a differently abled person. During the celebrations, the chief guest of the day also distributed gift hampers to the differently abled. The District Social Welfare Officer, Madonna Onasis T. Sangma, delivered the welcome address earlier, and SD Shira, CDPO, Samanda Block, proposed the vote of thanks, stated a press release.
