Election Commission of India (ECI) announces bye-elections to 3 Assembly seats in Meghalaya

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced bye-elections to the three Assembly seats of the State. These three seats are Mawryngkneng Rajabala and Mawphlang.

SHILLONG: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced bye-elections to the three Assembly seats of the State. These three seats are Mawryngkneng Rajabala and Mawphlang.

According to the notification of the Election Commission, the date of polling would be October 30 and the votes will be counted on November 2.

Mawryngkneng was represented by David Nongrum, who died on February 2, Rajabala was represented Dr. Azad Zaman who expired on March 4, both of the Congress, and Mawphlang was represented SK Sunn who died on September 10. Sunn who won as an independent candidate, later became an associate member of the United Democratic Party.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has also said that candidates contesting the elections, election agents, polling counting agents or whoever is coming into contact with public or election officials have to be double vaccinated.
