SHILLONG: KHNAM (Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement) president and North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum on Sunday stated that ''the Meghalaya government must ensure that Union Minister Amit Shah agrees to discuss the contentious issues of ILP (Inner Line Permit), CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act), and NRC (National Register of Citizens) "besides other burning issues during his proposed visit to the hill State.

"However, if he does not agree to discuss the contentious issues, then the State government should not host any official welcome programme of Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his proposed visit to Meghalaya.

"We should not be fooled again by Amit Shah like his visit earlier this year as many were expecting to have talks with him on various issues; but, he was unable to give us his time,'' Nongrum told The Sentinel. He further said that during his earlier visit in February this year, Shah gave only 45 seconds to them (NGOs) for submitting their memorandum and did not give time for discussion on CAA, ILP, NRC...

"The government should not accord an official welcome programme to Amit Shah during his visit to Shillong on 17 this month if he does not allot time to discuss these burning issues,'' he said.

He added, ''This condition must binding on all -- right from Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Cabinet Ministers and MLAs within the MDA (Meghalaya Democratic Alliance) government -- should host the official welcome programme.''
