"7 more persons have tested positive for COVID19 in the State. 1 from Ri Bhoi, 6 from Shillong (5 BSF personnel, and 1 returnee from Guwahati). Total Active Cases 36. Total Recovered Cases 43", Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma tweeted.
The state government, to check the spread of the virus, imposed a curfew from 9 pm on Friday till Monday midnight along the Byrnihat to Khanapara stretch. The health authorities and district administration have started random collection of swab samples from the Phulbari area in West Garo Hills district.
The rise in the number of COVID-19 patients in Guwahati also has the Meghalaya Government worried. The Assam capital is observing a strict lockdown and only emergency cases are being allowed into the city or allowed out.
Even as the world medicine community continues its frantic search for a vaccine or antidote, Assam health and family welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has proclaimed that the city has officially entered the pandemic stage. Yesterday alone, as many as 552 cases were detected in Guwahati city alone -- a staggering figure considering the numbers in the Northeast.
