SHILLONG: The headman of Mawlai, Phudmawri Sylvester Kurbah -- also known to many as Bah Best -- passed away at his house on Friday.
Recently Kurbah was elected as Chairman of 'Ka Sur Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep' which is a conglomeration of various groups from the Khasi and the Jaintia hills. The group has demanded a clean and fair inquiry on the killing of former HNLC leader Cheristarfield Thangkhiew on August 13.
Kurbah was also a member of the 'Ka Sur Ki Nong Mawlai' which was constituted after Cheristarfield was shot and killed. The 58-year-old headman was also a prominent figure in the Khasi and the Jaintia hills.
