Health advisory issued as number of conjunctivitis cases being reported across the district

SHILLONG0: In view of the increase in the number of conjunctivitis cases being reported across the district and in the interest of public health, the Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, East Khasi Hills District, hereby issues a health advisory with regards to the prevention and spread of the infection. Conjunctivitis, also known as the eye flu or pink eye, is highly contagious and spreads easily from one person to another through direct contact with the eye secretion of the infected person or indirectly through contaminated objects.

Symptoms include redness and swelling of the eyes, watery discharge, pain or gritty sensation in the eyes, itch-ing, difficulty tolerating light, and eyelids that may stick together in the morning, stated a press release.
