Historic Move: Meghalaya Cabinet to Relax Age for Government Services

SHILLONG: Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma, stated that Cabinet has decided to relax the upper age limit for candidates applying for government services by 5 years.

However, it will not be applicable for c Departments like Police, forest guards, home guards, and civil defense which will require physical fitness as Eligibility criteria.

"In a historic move, the cabinet has decided to relax the upper age limit for candidates applying for government services by five years," said Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma.

Through this decision, the age relaxation has been increased from 27 to 32 years and for Scheduled Tribes (STs) another five years will be added thereby relaxing the upper age limit to 37 years," Conrad Sangma further said

Today the Cabinet has approved the recommendations of all 3 Regional Committees as a process to resolve the Meghalaya-Assam border issue. The recommendations of both States will be submitted to MHA

Recently Odisha state chief secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, the Odisha Cabinet today resolved to raise the upper age restriction for entrance into state government service to 38 for three years, until 2023.

The decision was made to help youth who were unable to sit recruitment exams owing to the coronavirus outbreak, While the upper age limit to apply for government jobs will be 43 years for those belonging to ST, SC, and SEBC categories, it will be 48 years for general candidates with disabilities. The upper age limit for jobs will be 43 years for all women candidates. For PwD candidates of ST, SC, and SEBC categories, the upper age limit has been fixed at 53 years Mahapatra was added.
