HITO worried over pregnant women on COVID duty

SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has expressed concern as they have received information that pregnant women are compel to attend their duty amidst the COVID-19 second waves and they are at risk if continue their duty.

In this connection, the organisation has also sought the intervention of the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday.

"We urge the government to exempt them from work during this lockdown period as to enable them to save their health from the deadly COVID-19 infection with immediate effects," Donbok Dkhar President of HITO said.

He further said that if any pregnant women found to be tested positive while on duty the government shall take the responsibility and bare all the cost.

"As far as our knowledge it is noted that during first wave of the COVID-19 in 2020 all the pregnant women were exempted from work but during these second waves they were force to work," he said.
