SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has urged the State government to provide financial assistance to the Dorbar Shnongs as incentives through the autonomous district councils (ADCs) for fighting against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the State.
In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, HYC general secretary Roy Kupar Synrem said that with the outbreak of COVID-19, the active participation, cooperation and responsibilities of the Dorbar Shnongs has become important more than ever.
"The State government and its departments require the full cooperation of the Dorbar Shnongs to perform different activities related to the disease," said Synrem.
He underlined that had the Dorbar Shnongs not taken the responsibility and the decision to work together with the government in this fight against COVID-19, the State government would have been in a very difficult situation to contain the spread of the virus.
Hence, the Dorbar Shnongs should be appreciated for their contributions and cooperation, he added.
"We are made to understand that these Dorbar Shnongs perform their responsibilities and duties without any financial assistance or recognition from the State government or the ADCs but their limited resources on account of contributions of the residents of the Dorbar. In spite of all the difficulties and problems, the Dorbar Shnongs are performing their responsibilities diligently," Synrem said.
