SHILLONG: The family and clan members of Iban Laitphlang on Sunday sought action against the perpetrators involved in spreading malicious, unfounded, baseless and outright lies against her through social media.
"We humbly urge upon the law enforcement to act against the perpetrators as per the law of the land and deliver justice to IbanLaitphlang who for no rhyme or reason has been put through this mental agony needlessly," a statement issued by her mother A Laitphlang and clan member David Laitphlang said.
This came a day after false rumour was spread through social media (Whatsapp and Facebook) alleging that Iban was a member of an organization.
The message claims her to be a functionary/member of a clandestine organization with highly questionable background and that she used to indulge in illegal activities at the behest of several bigwigs of the State.
"We categorically stand together as one to denounce and condemn this uncivilized, uncouth behaviour which is clearly laced with deep criminal intent with the sole purpose of harming the reputation of an otherwise law-abiding citizen who has had no history of ill will with anybody," they said.
The statement also stated that the lies therein have greatly affected her physically and mentally, and at this juncture when complete chaos and confusion pervades the air on account of the ongoing pandemic, it is only making matters worse for the whole family and all friends and well-wishers.
Speaking to The Sentinel, IbanLaitphlang said, "If these people are accusing me of something then they should come forward and not hide behind social media."
She also said that if their allegations are true then she is ready to meet them at the police station to find out the truth. When asked, she said, "I don't even know who these people are and why they are doing this. Hence they should come forward and reveal themselves."
