SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students' Union (JSU) has slammed Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for his alleged involvement in requesting the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) to grant the environmental clearance (EC) to the Star Cement Meghalaya Ltd to expand its limestone mining project at Brishyrnot village in East Jaintia Hills district. The Jaintia Students' Union has condemned the Chief Minister for denying the allegation of helping the cement company in getting environmental clearance.

The Union said this was indicated in the letter from the Ministry to the member secretary of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) on February 22, this year. According to the Union, a paragraph is related to the exemption of public hearings for the expansion mining project at Brishyrnot.
