SHILLONG: The general secretary of United Democratic Party (UDP), Jemino Mawthoh has stated that there is a need for all regional parties in Meghalaya to work together for the interest of the people of this State.
“The UDP is one of the largest regional parties in the State; and we also have in the government the HSPDP which is working with us under the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA),” Mawthoh said while addressing a meeting at Mairang.
Referring to the other regional political parties of the State like the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), Mawthoh appealed to both these parties to also come together as one regional party. “We have been constantly urging other regional parties in the State to come together and strengthen the cause of unity,” he added. He further pointed out, “We are hopeful that the other regional parties will work with the UDP which is the largest regional party in Meghalaya. If we become the single largest regional party in the State it will definitely bring about changes in the field of governance in our State. Moreover, we will no longer be fearful of the policies which the bigger political parties from Delhi may try to implement in Meghalaya but which may not be in the interest of the people of Meghalaya,” he said.
