A Reporte
SHILLONG: Two months after joining the BJP, the four MDCs from Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) were once part and parcel of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA)’s Executive Committee, blamed the EC for the present financial crisis in the council.
Nangbah MDC Lakhon Biam said that the employees of JHADC have not received salaries for the last six months and they are now facing difficulties in keeping the kitchen fire burning, paying school fees and taking care of other necessities. He was accompanied by MDC of Khanduli Dawan Lyngdoh, MDC of Sumer Krison Langstang and MDC of Shangpung T Suchiang.
“We want to know the exact cause of the present financial crisis and we call for tabling of a report by the Executive Committee in the Winter Session scheduled to commence from 28th of this month,” the engineer turned politician said.
Biam said that the outcome of the enquiry committee constituted by the Executive Committee into the illegal appointment of various posts in JHADC is yet to see the light of the day, though the date of submission of the Committee was July 31, 2019.
He lambasted the Executive Committee for the delay of the report and asked them to table the report of the enquiry in the Winter Session and also take a stand on the fate of the 56 questionable employees.
The Nangbah MDC expressed concern over the stalling of construction of the Iawmusiang Market Complex and Jaintia National Dorbar, Jowai and demanded a report on the matter from the Executive Committee in the upcoming session of the council.
“What is the use of having a session for one or two hours”, questioned Biam while making a fervent call for having a session of three days in the coming Winter Session so that “We can air the grievances of the people and legislate important laws to safeguard the interest of the people.”
