SHILLONG: JP Nadda, the national president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Thursday interacted with the party's State office bearers, morcha heads, district incharges and district presidents through an online meeting.

Expressing his gratitude to JP Nadda for meeting the party functionaries, Meghalaya BJP president Ernest Mawrie informed Nadda about the COVID-related work done by the party workers across the State. Mawrie further informed that the State BJP had distributed 44,687 packets of food, 1,10,800 face masks and 18,300 bottles of sanitizers among the needy people. He also highlighted his concerns about the closure of the Tourism sector due to the COVID-related lockdown in Meghalaya. He sought Central intervention to kick-start the Sector.

Meanwhile, Nadda appreciated the initiative of the State BJP team for reaching out to the public during the lockdown period. He also lauded the efforts of the party to connect with the people through a 'Sampark Abhiyan' and inform them about the benefits of the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' package announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Nadda expressed his gratitude to the people who have come to regard the free ration being distributed by the Central government as 'Modi Rice' or 'Khaw Modi' in the State.

JP Nadda also highlighted as to how during the lockdown, no other political party left the comforts of their AC rooms other than the BJP. Only the BJP went to the people to help them with their problems, he said.

Ram Madhav, national general secretary of the BJP, who was also present in the online meeting, stressed the need to strengthen the organisation in the State so as to better serve the people. He said that a political party is supposed to work on the ground among the people.
