SHILLONG: The Khasi Students' Union (KSU), Kynshi Circle has apprehended over 28 illegal migrant labourers at Kynshi village in West Khasi Hills district. Its president, Wankular Samkmie informed that most of the apprehended migrant workers are from Assam and Uttar Pradesh (UP). "They were found entering the village illegally without any valid documents which include a work permit," Samkmie said.

He also informed that on enquired, these migrant labourers stated that they entered the village after passing through various check gates without any checking. It was also further revealed that these migrant workers were proposed to be engaged for blacktopping a road to Rongjeng by the CCL International Limited as informed by its manager Jay Kishore.

Later, the Union handed over all the migrant labourers to the Mairang Police to take the necessary action as per law.

On the other hand, the KSU West Khasi Hills district has condemned the failure of the State government to check the unregulated entry of people from outside at a time when the State is battling against the COVID-19 pandemic.
