SHILLONG: The State youth wing president of KHNAM, Thomas Passah has demanded an immediate investigation into the reports of high radiation of uranium at Nongbah Jynring Village in South West Khasi Hills district and that of an explosion from the uranium tank there.

Terming the incidents as "matters of great concern", the KHNAM leader said that investigations into the incidents should be done by an independent team of experts including noted economist Bremley Wnabantei B Lyngdoh.

"We have noticed that the authorities have given a different statement based on the report of the local police who visited the spot after the alarm was raised," said Passah here.

He added that from the video reports we would suggest that the Government should not take the matter too lightly. After more than three decades, rusting of pipes and development of cracks in such constructions cannot be ruled out, he added.
