SHILLONG: The chief of the Trinamool Congress announced that she and her party will not allow outsiders to impose CAA and NRC on the residents of Meghalaya while addressing an election rally in the state.

Mamata Banerjee took part in an election rally in the state of Meghalaya on Wednesday ahead of the assembly polls in the state which are dated for next Monday. She launched an attack on multiple parties which are taking part in the upcoming elections.

Taking a dig on the Bharatiya Janata Party, she mentioned “Outsiders want to rule here while oppressing you with National Register of Citizens, the Citizenship Amendment Act, bullets and scandals. Do not tolerate this. Don't allow people coming from outside the state to impose CAA or NRC on you,"

She also mentioned that the state of Meghalaya will be ruled by the people of the state itself and not by someone sitting in Guwahati or Delhi while promising that Trinamool Congress is a friend of the people of Meghalaya and will help them in all directions.

She also scratched the wounds of the violence on the Assam-Meghalaya border a few months back. “The Assam police fired at the people according to its own whims. Why were no central teams sent to investigate such an incident?” said the chief minister of West Bengal. She added that the centre sends out teams on minuscule issues, but paid no heed to this incident. “Shots were fired in (inter state) border areas. So many people died. But the (BJP) leaders did not come to see the devastation,” she added.

She also attacked the Conrad Sangma-led National People’s Party for corruption charges. She mentioned the alleged involvement of the ministers of the previous government in various scams including those in the coal mining and public distribution sectors of the state.

She also mentioned that Congress had failed the citizens of the state by not discharging the duties as the opposition party. “Congress is asking for votes but where is its moral right? I was in Congress but it expelled those who were with me. We are fighting against BJP and every day it is knocking at our doors with ED and the CBI,” added the political leader.
