SHILLONG: The Department of Allied Health Sciences of Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) conducted a Health Camp at Umtong village, Mawkynrew Block. About 100 local people, including infants, turned up to the camp to have their anthropometric measurements taken and vital signs evaluated.
Volunteers from Bansara Eye Care also provided free eye check-up to everyone. Doctors were made available throughout the day for free consultation while free medicines were given to the ones who needed them.
The villagers were greatly appreciative of the efforts of MLCU in organising such a camp.
In this connection, one of the villagers said, “The only access to healthcare that we have is a PHC that is situated at a considerable distance from the village.
The villagers informed that they can go there “if we have transportation, if not, we have to forego our checkup”.
“The service provided there is also not very regular. Hence, this camp is really a boon for us as we’re getting such a benefit after a very long time,” the villager added.
