Meghalaya: 26 more BSF jawans from Umpling HQ test Covid-19 positive

26 more Border Security forces personnel have been tested positive for Covid 19 amid a boom in cases among security personnel

Guwahati: 26 more Border Security forces personnel have been tested positive for Covid 19 on Friday in Meghalaya, sending the state's tally of active cases soaring upwards to 26.

It has been reported that 26 infected patients are from the BSF camp in Umpling, which has already been declared as a Containment Zone by the East Jaintia Hills district administration. The entire Frontier Headquarters Border Security Force (BSF) campus at Umpling in Shillong has been declared as a Containment Zone by the East Khasi Hills district administration after 38 jawans tested COVID-19 positive in a single day. War Nongbri, the District Magistrate has issued a set of measures that out to be followed in the Containment Zone area until the declared as 'safe' again and the order is withdrawn.

In a related development, the authorities of the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) have decided to shut down the hospital after a jawan from the same camp tested positive. It has been reported that a BSF personnel was admitted to the Orthopedics ward at NEIGRIHMS hospital, following which he tested positive on July 9. However, when he was tested for Covid-19 earlier, his test had come out negative.
