SHILLONG: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Meghalaya has welcomed the National Education Policy (NEP/2020) which was passed by the Union Cabinet recently. It termed the move that has come after over three decades as a revolutionary step. "It is an India-centric education policy contributing directly to transforming our nation sustainably into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society, by providing high quality education to all", said a release.

"Keeping into consideration the development of a child at the age group of 0 to 6 years occurs upto 85%, the old 10+2 pattern have been restructured at 5+3+3+4 pattern where excellent care, nutrition, physical and emotional hand-holding can be given to a child right from Aganwadi/ pre-primary school . Vocational course and coding will be introduced from Class-6 onwards where children can learn from local trainer having training in vocational profession. Mother language, regional language or national language can be used as a medium of instruction till Class 5 or even till Class 8, making language not a barrier but a bridge to education. This narrows the gap between speaking language and learning languages; and also recognises the importance of local language which are at the verge of extinction.

"As much as 6% of the GDP will be a invested in education as per NEP-2020. Establishment of National Research Foundation (NRF) will help India to expand and stimulate research. The present scenario of the world due to COVID-19 indicates how important is research for a country. This will take the Education sector in India towards a holistic approach where students will be prepared for the life and not for mere jobs", added the press release signed by the State secretary of the organization, Darilin Tang.
