East Khasi Hills: The Chief Electoral Officer of Meghalaya, FR Kharkongor has said that around 61,000 eligible voters are yet to be enrolled in Meghalaya. Over 19.60 lakh eligible voters have been registered, said the official Kharkongor on Monday.
Kharkongor added that most of the people who are eligible to vote but not yet registered belong to the East Khasi Hills district of the state.
Sharing the numbers, Kharkongar said that 60,962 eligible voters are yet to be enrolled. Out of which, 49,445 belongs to the East Khasi Hills district.
Kharkongor shared the information while addressing a state function on Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls, which was held on Monday at the Conference Hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills. The Chief said that the main aim of the Special Summary Revision is to encourage the new voters to enrol, which will further help in reducing the gap.
The Election Commission of India has been encouraging the eligible voters to enrol or register online through National Voters' Services Portal (NVSP) -- www.nvsp.in. But taking into consideration the poor internet connectivity in the rural areas, the Chief said that around 600 Community Service Centres have been roped in across the state. It will help the rural masses and will also bridge the connectivity gap.
As a part of the function, Booth Level Officers (BLO) kits, CD's on Integrated Draft Photo Electoral Rolls, and Guidebook on various topics were distributed.
The publication of the integrated draft electoral roll is November 16. The period between November 16 to December 16 will be given for claims and objections, and the final electoral roll will be published on January 21, 2021.
