SHILLONG: The second day of the autumn session of the Meghalaya Assembly was adjourned due to the demise of Mawphlang legislator SK Sunn.

Earlier, the House paid rich tributes in his memory. Legislators across party lines remembered him as a person who efficiently did his work either as a government official when he was in the PHE department or as a politician. They also remembered his contribution in the field of sports, especially football. Sunn died on September 10 after a brief illness.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who spoke on the occasion, said, "His demise is a great loss because of the kind of inputs and debate he brought into the House," Sangma said.

Leader of opposition, Dr. Mukul Sangma said that as an officer in the PHE department, Sunn was focused on work assigned to him and that he would carry this same quality as a politician. "As an officer he would personally ensure DPRs are in order and ensure that they are not returned for any deficiency," Dr. Sangma said.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that since 2018, the House has lost five MLAs. "When I was a PHE Minister, I had seen him work and because of him the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme is functioning well," Tynsong said.
