SHILLONG : As a result of tremendous effort by the Meghalaya administration, which initiated 'jan andolan', also called the people's movement against tuberculosis, it was recognised and awarded on Friday, 9th December, 2022.
The state was honoured for using the best applications to eradicate the illness. TB affects almost 2.6 million every year in the country. Delegates of the health department were awarded for Best Practise in Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilisation in controlling tuberculosis.
The team demonstrated this at a national level workshop in New Delhi, which focused primarily on removing the infection of TB. On this, Meghalaya CM, Conrad K Sangma, congratulated the entire team for the extremely fabulous effort. Despite the pandemic situation across the state that was totally affecting different spheres such service delivery and TB notifications. Unique alleviation measures were adopted to receive
TB notifications just like the pre-pandemic phase, stated State TB officer, M Mawrie. Meghalaya reported a huge number of 4,189 TB cases in the year 2021. Along with that, in the first half of 2022, a number of 1,075 patients were admitted for their treatment against the disease.
PM Modi visualises to completely erase the affect of this disease that hampers 26 lakhs Indians every year by 2025, that is 5 years ahead of the global deadline. The country has also implemented National Strategic Plan to eliminate TB. A funding of Rs 12,000 crore was sanctioned in the year 2018 for the TB patients across the country.
M Mawrie also said that, the Jan Andolan or People's Movement, that is working towards its goal to spread awareness in a more larger manner, eliminate the stigma and bring about services is progressing smoothly in the entire state. Meghalaya as a state has put forward great efforts since the beginning of PM Modi's plan.
The administration continuously worked towards erasing the disease through campaigns, meeting, social awareness program in different regions and so on.
