Meghalaya Cabinet approves MMMRF management guidelines

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Cabinet on Thursday approved the Meghalaya Minor Minerals Reclamation Fund (MMMRF) Management Guidelines 2022.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed that as directed by the High Court of Meghalaya, a Reclamation Fund was started in 2014 to rectify the damages caused to forest and environment as a result of mining activities.

"In compliance to this, the Reclamation Fund was collected but the guidelines were yet to be framed. Through the MMMRF Management Guidelines 2022 passed by the Cabinet today, the utilization of the funds will now be initiated," Sangma informed.

The Cabinet today also approved the proposed collaboration with the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru for the PA Sangma Fellowship for Legal & Policy Research & Training.

"Through this partnership with NLSIU, a Fellowship Programme called the PA Sangma Fellowship for Legal & Policy Research for students of NLSIU will be initiated for undertaking research activities," he added.

The Chief Minister informed that the Cabinet also approved theEex-Post Facto approval of the amendment to the GST Rules carried out in the years 2018-2021.

"Cabinet also approved the proposal for Ex-Post Facto approval of Cabinet on future amendments in the GST Rules as per recommendations of the GST Council," Sangma said.
