Meghalaya Chief Minister's bungalow under scanner after driver tests COVID-19 positive

The private driver in the Chief Minister's Bungalow was tested positive after which random tests were conducted in the entire compound

Guwahati: Although the RT-PCR COVID-19 tests of both Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and his Deputy Prestone Tynsong were negative, Sangma's bungalow has come under the scanner after a driver tested positive for the COVID-19, said reports.

The private driver in the Chief Minister's Bungalow was tested positive after which random tests were conducted in the entire compound and results were awaited.

It is pertinent to mention here that Sangma and Tynsong had undergone RT-PCR and CBNAAT tests after returning from their trip to New Delhi and Manipur where Cabinet Minister James Sangma had tested positive for the COVID-19.

As per reports, the staff of the Chief Minister's Office, who had accompanied Conrad to New Delhi and Manipur for a series of meetings and events, have also tested negative in the CBNAAT test.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya government has initiated the contact tracing of the Power Minister and people close to him have been tested for the virus.

On Monday, Meghalaya health minister Al Hek had confirmed that Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had gone into quarantine after Power Minister James Sangma tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The minister tested positive for the virus at the Imphal airport, where a new office of the National People's Party (NPP) was recently inaugurated.

The Meghalaya power minister had also tested positive for the virus on a second re-test, which was conducted on Sunday.

Following this, the power minister James K Sangma's convoy met with a road accident in Assam Sunday morning while on its way to Shillong from Manipur. Although Sangma did not sustain any injuries, 4 constables who were in the Meghalaya minister's pilot car got injured.

The pilot car turned upside down due to the impact of the accident.
