Meghalaya: CM Conrad Sangma Promotes Rafting, Launches Projects

SHILLONG: The "Meghalaya Rafting" programme, which aims to promote rafting in the state, was formally launched on July 7 at Whitewater Village, Umtham, in the Ri-Bhoi district, by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.

The Meghalaya Canoe Association and the Ri-Bhoi Water Sports and Tourism Cooperative Society have been actively promoting the sport in Umtham village and interacting with the government for a number of years.

Taking on CM Conrad Sangma stated that, “We have officially launched a project to promote rafting in our State today at Umtham village in Ri-Bhoi.

Huge applause to the Ribhoi Rafting Tourism Cooperative Society for their tireless efforts in training and popularizing this thrilling sport among the local youth.

I am happy to learn that the locals from the area are participating in national and international events, showcasing their skills on a global stage.

Government is fully committed to supporting the Rafting Cooperative & Tourism Society and take this exhilarating sport to new heights.”

Conrad Sangma also discovered that locals from the region are taking part in regional, national, and worldwide competitions to display their talents on a big scale.

Additionally, he reaffirmed that the government is entirely dedicated to helping the Rafting Cooperative & Tourism Society advance this thrilling sport.

CM Conrad, who is staying at Ri-Bhoi's, met and spoke with the farmers who are working to grow fragrant plants in Byrwa village as part of the flagship Aroma Mission.

The Meghalaya Canoe Association and the Ri-Bhoi Water Sports and Tourism Cooperative Society have held multiple national and international competitions in Umtham village to promote the sport. Boys and girls from the area received rafting training, and they are currently taking part in a variety of national and international competitions.
