Guwahati: Meghalaya health minister Al Hek on Monday confirmed that Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong have gone into quarantine after Power Minister James Sangma tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The two leaders are awaiting their RT-PCR test results, Hek said.
James Sangma had accompanied the two on a recent trip to New Delhi, where a number of key meetings took place. The minister later tested positive for the virus at the Imphal airport, where a new office of the National People's Party (NPP) was recently inaugurated.
The Meghalaya power minister had also tested positive for the virus on a second re-test, which was conducted on Sunday.
Following this, the power minister James K Sangma's convoy met with a road accident in Assam Sunday morning while on its way to Shillong from Manipur.
Although Sangma did not sustain any injuries, 4 constables who were in the Meghalaya minister's pilot car got injured. The pilot car turned upside down due to the impact of the accident.
It is pertinent to mention here that Meghalaya has registered 139 new cases on Monday, taking the total number of active cases to 1,686, while two more people succumbed to the infection.
