Meghalaya Congress Looking at the Youth Power of the State

SHILLONG: Representatives of the Congress party mentioned that the party is looking to establish a government with youth power in mind while targeting the old members of the party who had changed their affiliations ahead of the state elections.

The All India Congress Committee official in charge for the state of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, Manish Chatrath, mentioned "The old faces used the party to come to power and fulfilled their personal interest while in power. But they left the party to join the Bengal-based Bengali party and other parties to fulfil their monetary ambitions and also to be in power."

The Congress leader also mentioned that half of their candidates are within the age band of 26 to 46 years in an attempt to reestablish the old glory of the state of Meghalaya. The Congress party has released a list of 60 candidates for all the 60 constituencies of the state and out of them, 30 belong to this age band and have good educational and professional backgrounds.

They have also mentioned that these candidates have unblemished track records and a clear idea about what needs to be done in their respective constituencies.

The chief of Meghalaya Congress, Vincent Pala also mentioned a change in the state government. He said, "Meghalaya needs a new beginning, Meghalaya needs to be free from corruption and scams and the Congress is the only answer to all the problems that afflict this beautiful land of Meghalaya."

The Chief Electoral Official of the state of Meghalaya, F R Kharkongor mentioned that a total of 375 candidates from multiple political parties will be trying their luck in the upcoming elections, out of which 36 are female candidates. At the end of the last day for withdrawal of the nominations, the state did not see any uncontested wins or withdrawals. The state of Meghalaya has about 81000 first-time voters of the voting happening on February 27.
