Sentinel Digital Desk

TURA, July 27: In a startling revelation, Congress MLA Saleng Sangma has raised serious concerns about the lackadaisical attitude of the West Garo Hills (WGH) Police in ensuring the security of the Chief Minister, following the recent incident of stone pelting in CMO in Tura. The incident, which unfolded amidst high tension, has sparked outrage and calls for immediate action to address the apparent breach in security measures.

In his strong condemnation, Saleng Sangma highlighted that the incident indicated a significant breach in the security arrangement of the Chief Minister. Drawing attention to a related incident, the MLA shared that Education Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh had been recently turned back from Jengjal by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) due to security concerns while en route to Tura for a scheduled meeting. This alarming revelation further intensified worries about the safety and protection of high-ranking government officials like the Chief Minister.

"If the Chief Minister had been harmed, imagine the catastrophic consequences; I am genuinely scared that it could have escalated to a violent and dangerous situation," expressed Saleng Sangma, reflecting the gravity of the security breach.

Calling for a thorough and comprehensive investigation, the Congress MLA emphasized the need for the police to delve deep into the matter to ascertain the root causes and identify any loopholes in the security measures. The incident, which involved miscreants causing a disruptive ruckus, has also led to severe implications for the winter capital movement, further underscoring the urgency to address the security lapses.

Saleng Sangma took a resolute stance against attributing blame solely to one political party for the incident, asserting that the focus should be on rectifying the security arrangements and ensuring the safety of all government officials.

The MLA expressed his disappointment at what he perceived as a lack of serious consideration for the Chief Minister's security by the WGH Police. He lamented that the police appeared to adopt a "chalta hai" (casual) attitude despite being well aware of the brewing tensions in Tura, demanding that adequate security measures should have been put in place well in advance of the Chief Minister's arrival.

The incident has sparked a public outcry, with citizens and political circles demanding swift and decisive action to prevent such security breaches in the future. Authorities are now under heightened pressure to reevaluate and bolster security protocols to safeguard the well-being of elected representatives and public servants in the region.
