SHILLONG: The Congress party has released its manifesto for the Meghalaya elections and it has several very interesting points to attract voters of the state.

Some of the key promises made by the Congress party include monthly assistance of Rs 3000 to single mothers belonging to the BPL category. Another key promise made by the party is the giving of a job to one person in every household if the party comes to power in the upcoming elections.

The manifesto also mentioned that the party will ensure an uninterrupted power supply to all commercial as well as domestic users across the state. It also mentions the passing of a new law in the state which will enforce the government to upload documentation related to the developmental activities carried out in the state onto the public domain for the citizens to see. Thus pointing to a new transparency law in the state.

"If the Congress forms the government, it will transfer Rs 3,000 per month to single BPL mothers raising their children alone. This will empower women giving them financial independence and helping them run their houses in a better way. This translates to Rs 36,000 a year which is a substantial amount," mentioned Vincent H Pala, the state president for congress.

He also mentioned that the single mothers of the state face a large number of problems given their lack of education which also is a main reason for a large number of child marriage and teenage pregnancy incidents. It also makes things difficult for these women to secure a decent job in the state.

The Congress leader also mentioned that the lack of ample avenues for jobs in the state is the main cause of the citizens of Meghalaya moving to different cities across the country and that the party aims to irradicate that need by introducing the one-job-per-household policy when elected to power.
