Meghalaya cop passes away at COVID-19 quarantine centre in Khanapara

A senior police official in Ri-Bhoi district confirmed that the constable succummed to Covid-19 on Thursday.

Guwahati: A constable of Meghalaya Police (MLP) 1st Battalion, Ajay Baidya (54), breathed his last at the Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) quarantine centre in Khanapara on Thursday, July 30.

A senior police official in Ri-Bhoi district confirmed that the constable succumbed to a Covid-19 infection on Thursday.

As per official report, the deceased constable had undergone quarantine as he was among the secondary contacts of a positive patient.

"The constable had initially vomited blood after complaining of stomach pain and later fell unconscious," a senior police official informed, adding that a medical team had declared him dead.

Confirming that the deceased constable had died of other health complications, the official stated that he was tested using the Rapid Antigen test.

"They have taken the body to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for the postmortem," he further added.
