* 423 patients recover till date

SHILLONG: With the detection of 17 more persons who tested positive for COVID-19 during the 24 hours, the tally of active cases in Meghalya rose to 594 on Saturday, said Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War.
Of the 17 new cases, 12 are civilians from East Khasi Hills district, two others from North Garo Hills; and three Border Security Force (BSF) troopers from West Garo Hills district.
Dr Warr further informed that 12 patients have also recovered during the day, taking the total recoveries in the State to 423. The new recovered cases include four in East Khasi Hills (three are civilians and one BSF jawan); seven civilians in Ri Bhoi and another civilian in West Jaintia Hills.
Of the 594 active cases in the State, East Khasi Hills has 453 cases that include 245 civilians, 142 BSF troopers and 66 personnel of the armed forces. Besides, there are 65 cases in Ri Bhoi, 31 in West Garo Hills, 18 in East Jaintia Hills, 15 in West Jaintia Hills, six in West Khasi Hills, two each in South West Garo Hills, South Garo Hills and North Garo Hills district.
On Friday, Dr warr Warr informed that a 46-year-old patient, who had tested positive for COVID-19, passed away at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) hospital during that day. Speaking to reporters Dr Warr added that the patient was admitted at the hospital for treatment due to chronic kidney failure. "The patient was also tested positive for COVID-19," he said.
Altogether five patients including a senior doctor have so far died in the State due to COVID-19.
MOTOR SHOWROOM CLOSURE: The East Khasi Hills District Deputy Commissioner, in on order issued on Friday, directed the Rani Motors showroom at Mawblei to temporarily remain closed, until further orders. The step has been taken in view of reports that a COVID-19 person had visited the showroom.
