SHILLONG: With the detection of 44 more COVID-19 patients across Meghalaya during the last 24 hours, the State's tally of positive cases rose to 633 on Thursday, informed the State's Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman Warr.

The 44 new cases include the maximum number of 19 in the Ri Bhoi district (15 are personnel of the armed forces; and four are civilians); 14 in West Garo Hills (all BSF troopers); 10 in East Khasi Hills (six civilians, three personnel of the armed forces and one from the State police) and a civilian in the West Jaintia Hills district.

Dr Warr also informed that six patients recovered during the day, taking the total recoveries in the State to 345. Of the total 633 active cases, 491 are in East Khasi Hills of which 243 are civilians, 187 BSF troopers and 61 are personnel of the armed forces. As on date, there are 70 cases in Ri Bhoi, 29 in West Garo Hills, 17 each in West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills, five in West Khasi Hills, and two each in South West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills.

CONTAINMENT ORDER WITHDRAWN: The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills in an order lifted the containment order from certain areas here from Thursday. The order was issued in exercise of the power under the 'Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, COVID- 19 Regulations and amendments thereof.

The order was "based on contact tracing status and test reports of high risk contacts from the building of Talas Massar to the flower nursery of Block-II Mawiongrim and from the building of MR Nongrum to H Marwein and from the house of G Lyngdoh to the house of S Marwein of Block-IV Mawiongrim and in view of reports received thereof", stated a release.
