Meghalaya COVID death toll rises to 141, new cases 25

Meghalaya on Tuesday recorded two more COVID-19 deaths, taking the number of fatalities in the State due to the infection to 141, informed Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War.

SHILLONG: Meghalaya on Tuesday recorded two more COVID-19 deaths, taking the number of fatalities in the State due to the infection to 141, informed Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War.

Meanwhile, the State recorded 25 new cases and 12 persons recovered from the virus. With this, the active cases went up to 149 and the total recovered cases stands at 13,216. Of the 25 new cases, 24 were reported from East Khasi Hills district and one from South Garo Hills district.

Dr War informed that one case from West Jaintia Hills migrated to Dehradun.

Of the 12 recovered cases, five were reported East Khasi Hills; six from West Garo Hills (Armed & paramilitary forces: four; civilians: two); and one from Ri-Bhoi.

Of the 3,00,372 samples tested for COVID-19 till date, 2, 86, 866 yielded negative results The number of entrants from outside Meghalaya till date is 79, 788.

Both the deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills district. Komal Das (59) of Rilbong admitted to the Shillong Civil Hospital on January 2 tested positive, and expired at 4:25 pm. The second death recorded on Tuesday was that of Pandav Kuri (49) of Mawbah, Shillong. He expired at 11.50 pm.
