Meghalaya COVID toll rises to 16; New patients: 88

Meghalaya on Sunday recorded 88 new COVID-19 positive cases and one more death taking the number of fatalities due to the virus to 16.

SHILLONG: Meghalaya on Sunday recorded 88 new COVID-19 positive cases and one more death taking the number of fatalities due to the virus to 16. Meanwhile, the number of active cases has now risen to 1,433.

Meghalaya on Sunday also recorded 29 new recoveries taking the total number of recovered cases across the State to 1,556. Of these, South Garo Hills reported 11 (all from the armed and paramilitary forces) followed by West Garo Hills: 10 (Armed and paramilitary forces: six; civilians: four); besides four recoveries each from East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi.

Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War further informed that the deceased, Dinabandhu Roy (59 years) of Pynthorumkhrah, was admitted to the Nazareth Hospital at 10.30 am on September 6. He also suffered from Diabetes Mellitus with Myocardial Infarction besides COVID-19. He expired at 1:15 pm.

The district-wise break up of the new cases are as follows: East Khasi Hills: 35 (Armed and paramilitary forces : 15; civilians: 20); West Garo Hills: 39 (Armed and paramilitary forces: 12; civilians: 27); North Garo Hills and South Garo Hills: four each (all civilians); and East Jaintia Hills: three civilians; besides one civilian each from Ri-Bhoi, South West Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills.

The district-wise break up of the active cases are as follows: East Khasi Hills: 945 (Armed and paramilitary forces: 181, civilians: 764); West Garo Hills: 174 (Armed and paramilitary forces: 104; civilians: 70); Ri-Bhoi: 117 (Armed and paramilitary forces: 29; civilians: 88); East Garo Hills : 97; West Khasi Hills: 31; East Jaintia Hills: 28; South Garo Hills: 15; North Garo Hills: 12; West Jaintia Hills: nine; South West Garo Hills: four; and South West Khasi Hills: one.
