Meghalaya Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong reviews meet on Coronavirus scene

All the COVID-19 cases recorded in Meghalaya since the second wave started in April this year, are of the ‘Delta’ variant, declared the State government on Saturday.

 State government announces new rates for treatment of COVID-19 patients

SHILLONG: All the COVID-19 cases recorded in Meghalaya since the second wave started in April this year, are of the 'Delta' variant, declared the State government on Saturday.

Informing media persons after a review meeting, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Health & Family Welfare, Prestone Tynsong said that in the first wave of the pandemic one infected person spread the virus to three others while in the second wave, an infected person can spread the disease to six others. "It (delta) is very dangerous. That's why till date, the cases are still increasing because many infected persons are thinking that the first and the second waves are the same.''

Stating that the 'Delta' variant is infectious, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the government has tried its best to control the pandemic in the State, however adding, ''But, the government alone cannot manage it. We need the cooperation of each and every citizen so that strictly follow the COVID-19 protocols."

Tynsong further stated that the citizens should understand that the virus spreads faster. In this rebard, he called upon the stakeholders like the durbars shnongs and the COVID-management committees to concentrate in their respective areas to curb the spread of the virus.

The Deputy Chief Minister also said that the only way to come out of the situation is vaccination. He informed that only 45 per cent of the eligible persons have been vaccinated so far across the State. Tynsong added that the government has approved the new enhanced rates to treat the COVID-19 patients under the MHIS (Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme). He added that the new rates will apply also for the private hospitals.

He informed that there are five categories – for those admitted in the general ward without oxygen, the rate is Rs 7,000 daily; for the general ward patients with oxygen it is Rs 11,500 daily; for the ICU-HDU patients without ventilators, the rate is Rs 14,000; for the ICU patients with non-invasive ventilator the rate is Rs 18,000 daily and for those patients who are in ICU with invasive ventilator, the rate will be Rs 20,000 daily.
