Shillong:
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on May 12 laid the foundation stone for the 3MW Riangdo Hydro Electric Project, a run-of-river project which is the first power project in the West Khasi Hills District.
Taking to social media, Sangma later informed that the project "will contribute 1,792 million units of energy yearly and will bring a significant change to the power scenario in the area which is suffering from frequent power cuts and perpetual voltage fluctuations."
It is pertinent to mention here that at the foundation-laying ceremony, the Chief Minister was accompanied by the Minister of Power, James Sangma, and MLAs Gigur Myrthong and Macmillan Byrsat, among others.
