Meghalaya Frontier of Border Security Force seizes huge quantity of Bangladeshi currency

SHILLONG: Troops of BSF (Border Security Force), Meghalaya Frontier foiled yet another smuggling bid at the International Border on May 1.

Witnessed unusual movement of persons beyond the border fence on both the sides of Bangladesh and India, the BSF personnel searched the area, and recovered the currency in denominations of 1000 and 500 Bangladeshi Taka.

The operation was carried out by the troops of BOP (Border Out Post) Lyngkhat, 30 battalion of BSF under the Meghalaya Frontier. The seized Bangladeshi currency has face value of 12,88,000 taka. The currency notes were tightly wrapped in a plastic packet and hidden in the bushes, stated a release.

DIG PRO, U K Nayal said, ''It has been reliably learnt that the seized currency was meant for payment in lieu of cattle smuggled to Bangladesh from India.''
