TURA: The Governor House located in Tura, situated in the West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, is on track and is expected to be completed by March next year, according to Rakkam Sangma, the Minister of General Administration Department (GAD) for Meghalaya.
In response to a starred question posed in the Meghalaya assembly, Minister Rakkam Sangma provided this update on Wednesday, September 20. He indicated that the timeline for finishing the remaining tasks extends for 12 months from the issuance of the final work order, which is expected to be by March 24, 2024. Similarly, the additional works are also slated for completion within 12 months from the date of the final work order, likely by January 2024.
The project had initially received administrative approval on September 7, 2009, with the foundation stone laid on August 6, 2010. Administrative approval for the remaining works was granted on December 2, 2020, while approval for the additional works came on October 27, 2022.
The original tender for the Governor House project was floated on November 14, 2009, and the tender for the remaining works was released on December 3, 2020. The tender for additional works was issued on October 28, 2022.
The original sanctioned budget for the project stands at Rs 5,47,89,000. Once completed, the Governor House in Tura is expected to serve as an important regional administrative and governmental facility.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Meghalaya, Phagu Chauhan, attended the Annual Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) Award Ceremony organized by the NCC Directorate, North East Region, held at the Rhino Auditorium, Shillong, on Wednesday. In recognition of the outstanding efforts of the ANOS in their respective fields, the Governor gave away awards to 16 deserving officers from different states of the North East in the presence of Lieutenant General Sanjay Malik, GOC, 101 Area Shillong, Major General Gagandeep, Assistant Director General, National Cadets Corps, North East, Associate Officers of the NCC, senior state officials, officers of the Army, and the Police Department.
