Shillong: Meghalaya Governor Tathagatha Roy and state Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma exhortations to the youths to channelize the power of the youths towards a positive path and nation building was the hall mark of the 25th convocation programme organized by the North eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Shillong on Wednesday.
Speaking first, as the guest of the honour in front of the students, parents and faculty member, the Chief Minister referred to the 8,653 students who have obtained their degrees in different spheres as a picture of hope and a sense of believe that the region is moving towards the right direction . However he was also prompt to mention that the power of the youth needs a right direction. “if the energy of the youth is not put in the right direction it could lead to complete destruction and that is the challenge of our country,”, stated Conrad K sangma
Talking about the channelizing the power of the youths in the construction of economic development, The Chief Minister was not hesitant in saying that this is the greatest worry of all political leaders and people working in this area.
He stated that apart from the fact that besides the youths that are getting their degrees, the challenges also lies on them and all of the stake holders to create employment and jobs which is probably one of the biggest challenges for any government in the world faces. It is on this note that Conrad K Sangma emphasized on entrepreneurship. “I would like to say that it is important that we as a nation and as a state and all of you as young minds must look towards entrepreneurship to take Meghalaya and India forward. It is only through entrepreneurship that an economy can grow. If there is no entrepreneurship and no initiative taken by the entrepreneurs we will not be able to see growth,” stated the Meghalaya Chief Minister.
Stressing on entrepreneurship the Chief Minister further added “I would like to say that it is important that we as a nation and as a state and all of you as young minds must look towards entrepreneurship to take Meghalaya and India forward. It is only through entrepreneurship that an economy can grow. If there is no entrepreneurship and no initiative taken by the entrepreneurs we will not be able to see growth.”
On the other hand, by virtue of being the Chief Rector of the University, Governor Roy gave a brief report about the activities of the university in the past two years.
Off the 8653 students who were conferred their degrees, 147 received their PHD, 38 with the M.Phil, 1222 with Post graduate degree and 7246 with their respective bachelor degrees.
