SHILLONG: In view of the overall situation in Shillong, the Curfew will be extended till 5 AM on 18th August 2021. The temporary ban on mobile internet services will also be extended for the next 24 hours.
Further, There will also be a Sub-Committee for Security & Law & Order headed by the Chief Minister Sangma Conrad with Deputy CM and Home Minister as members to look into aspects of law & order, possible future threats & overall functioning of Meghalaya Police.
Meanwhile, a Peace Committee will be constituted, chaired by the Hon'ble Deputy CM, P. Tynsong & Cabinet Ministers, H. Dohling, and R. Tongkhar. The Committee will co-opt members from civil societies, religious organizations, community heads, etc.
The cabinet has also decided to constitute a judicial inquiry under the Commission of Enquiry Act to look into the events that occurred in the wee hours of 13th August 2021.
Earlier, unknown miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at the private residence of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at Third Mile in Upper Shillong.
Reportedly, two Molotov cocktail bottles that consisted of highly inflammable substances were hurled at CM Sangma's residence at around 10:15 pm, on Sunday night.
The unidentified attackers were driving a car near the premises of chief minister Sangma's residence which is located near Third Mile.
According to the police, the first Molotov cocktail bottle was hurled at the front of the CM's residence and the second one was thrown behind the backyard.
The East Khasi Hills district would be under Section 144 with the effect from 8 pm on Sunday following a massive surge in violent protests in Shillong against the killing of former HNLC leader Chesterfield Thangkhiew.
It may be mentioned that, following the crisis, the state government has suspended internet services for the next 48 hours in four districts of the state.
