Meghalaya Govt Imposes Total Curfew in Shillong Agglomeration

The order shall remain in force till 5 am of August 17, 2021 or till further orders.

With reports of sporadic violence that have been reported from Shillong on Sunday, the Meghalaya Government has imposed a 'Total Curfew' from 8 pm in Shillong Agglomeration with immediate effect.

The order shall remain in force till 5 am of August 17, 2021 or till further orders.

The areas to be under curfew are:

Whole of Municipal Area

Whole of Cantonment Area

All areas under Mawlai Block including Census Towns

All areas under Mawpat Block including Census Towns

Areas under Mylliem Block from Umshyrpi Bridge upto 7th Mile, Upper Shillong

Madanrting, Mawblei, Laitkor, Nongkseh, Umlyngka, Lawsohtun, Mawdiangdiang, Diengiong, Siejiong

The Government has also prohibited public movement during the period of curfew.

Shops, Offices, Business establishments, and all educational institutions will remain closed.

No kind of gathering, public meeting or rally will be held during this period, the order stated.

Meanwhile, Special DGP to Assam Police GP Singh took to his Twitter handle saying, "Curfew has been imposed in Shillong due to Law & Order issues. People from Assam are advised not to travel to Shillong till curfew continues."
