Meghalaya Govt spends over Rs. 19 Lakhs to hold 2 Cabinet meetings

Meghalaya Government spends over Rs 19 lakhs for holding two State Cabinet meetings under the ‘Cabinet on the Move’ programme.

Shillong: Over Rs. 19 lakhs was spent by Meghalaya Government to hold two State Cabinet meetings in Tura and Jowai under the 'Cabinet on the Move' programme.

Zenith Sangma, Congress MLA questioned CM Conrad Sangma about the fate of programme to which the Chief Minister replied that the programme was temporarily suspended due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Sangma said that the purpose behind the programme is to bring the administration close to the citizens and informed that the expenditure took in holding the two meetings was Rs. 19, 18,221.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the Government also hold several review meetings apart from Cabinet meeting with the district administration and the Government was ensuring that it can connect with grassroots people with this initiative.

"We cannot make all decisions sitting in Shillong as there are specific issues and with this programme, we are able to connect in a better way with people," Chief Minister added.

Zenith Sangma aggressively questioned the Government that how holding meetings in different districts would connect with people when nobody was allowed to even see the meeting. Sangma commented that it was just a waste of people's money.
