Shillong: Meghalaya home minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Tuesday condemned the horrifying incident where an 80-year-old man was buried alive on suspicion of practising witchcraft in West Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya.
Rymbui said that these incidents have been occurring time and again and even the government has issued advisories that in any such situation, people should not take law into their own hands.
''I would like to advise people not to believe in all these. If there is anything that people are suspicious about they should report to the authorities concerned so that such incidents where people lose their lives do not take place. There is a law that takes care of the needs of people,'' said the minister.
Rymbui further appealed to all the people of the state that let the law take its course and sympathize with the victim's family.
He further informed that the perpetrators been arrested or will be arrested and strict action will be taken against them.
