SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Joint Council of Trade Unions & Associations (MJCTU&A) will resort to one-day general strike on November 26, said the Central Trade Unions & Independent Service Federations.
The MJCTU&A has demanded immediate measures to control the staggering price rise of all commodities.
The Council also demanded cash transfer of Rs 7,500 per month for all non-income tax-paying families; expansion of MGNREGA to provide 200 days' work in a year in rural areas at enhanced wages; and extension of employment guarantee to urban areas, to withdraw all anti farmer laws and anti-worker labour codes.
The MJCTU&A also demanded move must be stopped to privatise the public sector undertakings including the financial sector and stop corporatisation of government-run manufacturing and service entities like the Railways, Ordinance Factories, Ports. The Council also wants the withdrawal of the draconian circular on forced premature retirement of Government & PSU Employees, revive the Public Distribution System and bring more essential item under PDS.
