Meghalaya: Jowai containment zone's 'validity' extended

The order of unregulated movement and exit movement in the affected area is restricted from 6:00 AM of 29th July to 6:00 AM of 1st August.

Guwahati, July 28: The district administration of West Jantia Hills has extended the validity of the containment zone in Jowai till August 1 to effectively trace all the high-risk and low-risk contacts of index cases.

The district magistrate of West Jaintia Hills issued an order on Tuesday to extend the time of containment zone for the safety of the people residing in Loomsooiung Newhill Jowai under Ladthadlaboh PHC, after recommendations by the District Health and Medical Officer of the West Jaintia Hills district.

The order of unregulated movement in the affected area is restricted from 6:00 AM of 29th July to 6:00 AM on 1st August. No person will be allowed to move inside or outside the containment zone except for medical emergencies and essential goods and services. Gatherings, events, and any kind of functions are restricted.

All kinds of shopping establishments are closed. Unauthorized entry and exit are prohibited in the containment zone until the area is declared to be "safe."

Any violation of the COVID protocol will call for prosecution under the penal code provision of section 51 (b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 read with section 188 of the IPC, the order said.
