Shillong: A non-bailable warrant has been issued against BJP's Meghalaya vice-president Bernard N. Marak, who is allegedly accused of operating a 'brothel' at his farmhouse in Tura.
The police also carried out a raid at Marak's farmhouse and recovered six minors and also apprehended 73 people on Saturday.
However, the BJP vice-president is the run following this development.
"A non-bailable warrant of arrest has been issued against Bernard N Marak alias Rimpu. It is a standing warrant issued by the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Tura," PTI quoted West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Vivekanand Singh as saying.
As per the police, Marka was asked to cooperate in the investigation but is on the run following which, the police have launched a manhunt operation.
Reportedly, Marak has alleged that he is the target of political vendetta by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and fears for his life.
However, the state Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong denied any such allegations and asserted that his government allows acting as per their discretion.
Marak has been slapped with charges under different sections of the IPC and the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act, 1956.
