Meghalaya: One Arrested For Pelting Stones at the Residence of a Minister

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Police arrested one for pelting stones at the residence of Dr M Ampareen Lyngdoh in the Laitumkhrah region of the capital city of Meghalaya. She is the minister of Law and Education for the state of Meghalaya.

The accused was identified as one Teibor Lynting aged 34 years. The Superintendent of police for the East Khasi Hills district Sylvester Nongtnger informed that the accused was found in an inebriated condition and was mentally unstable when the incident took place. The accused is said to have belonged to Malki and was being interrogated for the incident to ensure that anyone else was involved in the incident. Police security was increased in the locality after the incident took place.

The police officer also informed that four stones were pelted at the minister’s home. The perpetrator was also found caring a machete and was overpowered by the family members of the minister. The minister’s husband Fantin Joseph Lakadong was also at home when the incident took place, and he mentioned that some window panes of the house were damaged during the incident. He also mentioned that the accused was quickly identified using the footage from the security cameras in the house.

The minister had previously inaugurated the Lawbah Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the presence of Mawsynram MLA, Ollan Singh Suin, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, R. M. Kurbah, and other officers of the Health and Family Welfare Department at a programme held at the premises of the PHC at Lawbah, East Khasi Hills District.

Speaking at the inauguration function, Dr M. Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the government is committed to ensuring better health services to the people of the region, and the PHC is a testimony to the efforts to make quality healthcare accessible to the people both in urban and rural areas as well. Dr Lyngdoh thanked all the stakeholders involved in making the dream a reality for the people of Lawbah and its adjoining areas.
